OK, so I have been promising myself that I would start a blog for a very long time. Since this year is a big political year with a guaranteed election happening within the next 20 weeks I thought this would be a good chance to give my opinion on political news, the election and probably the copious amount of work I do campaigning during it!
And there may be the odd non political related posts as well.
So lets start with the news from today both inside and outside of the Lib Dem's. BBC News has this to offer: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8450863.stm. Okay so immediately we know how the press is going to react to this story - "Lib Dem's change mind again" or "Lib Dem's still sitting on the fence". How I see this is more of a "Lib Dem's are actually thinking about what they are promising!"
Now is the time where the main party's are starting to give across their main priorities for the election - in a way a reason why I feel calling elections early still benefits the government party (unless you're GB), as the time the other parties get to do this in is greatly shortened.
I am glad that Nick has reconfirmed the Liberal Democrats commitment to scrapping tuition fees - with the gradual scrapping scheme being more for money purposes then for the dislike of the policy. Education should be free, however since Tony Blair brought the tuition fees in it would cause a lot of problems pulling them immediately as the universities would need to go back to the old system and rework their funding ideas ( I would however like to know what happens to us already in debt - do we just have to regret being born at the wrong time)
"He sidestepped questions over what he may do if there was a hung parliament. " Mainly as Nick is probably getting bored with people asking as I am sure we all are - it has been said on many occasions that the Liberal Democrats do not intend to "side" with either Labour or the Conservatives in the case of a hung Parliament - this decision is not going to change just because the person asking the question is different.
At the end of the day as far as I can see it still the Liberal Democrats are the only party to stand up and say that they realise some of their policies need to go on hold and then things need to be reassessed - whilst we have Cameron and Brown still promising the world whether they can give this to us or not.
What would you rather?
